Sextus Pompey. AR Denarius, Sicily, 42-40 BC. Obv. Head of Cn. Pompeius Magnus right; behind jug, before, lituus; around, MAG PIVS IMP ITER. Rev. Neptune standing left, holding aplustre and placing foot on prow; on either side, one of the Catanean brothers, bearing his father on his shoulders; above, PRAEF; in exergue, CLAS ET [ORAE]/ [MAR IT EX SC]. Cr. 511/3a; B. 27 (Pompeia); RRSC D290.2a. AR. 3.89 g. 19 mm. RR. Very rare and choice, with pleasant cabinet tone. Slightly off-center. EF.
