Lot 990:
Germany. Round uniface plaque, slightly concave, depicting the Allegory of the Arts, Augsburg, early 17th century. Obv. Allegory of the Arts surrounded by small arabesques. Weber, 1975 p. 339, n. 786. AE. 347 g. 150 mm. Opus: Hans Jacob Bayr (1574-1622). This plaque belongs to a rich production by the artist of round or oval uniface plaques, sometimes slightly concave, mostly representing allegories or biblical scenes, found in numerous major museums. The clarity of the details and the comparison with the specimen in the National Gallery of Washington lead us to believe this is an original work. EF.
