Augustus (27 BC - 14 AD). AR Denarius, Uncertain mint in Italy (Rome?), 32-31 BC. Obv. Diademed head of Pax right; cornucopia to left, olive branch to right. Rev. [C]AESAR - DIVI F. Octavian in military attire advancing right, right hand extended and holding transverse spear in left. RIC I (2nd ed.) 253; RSC 72. AR. 4.02 g. 20 mm. Scarce. Rare as such. Exceptionally preserved example, with attractive iridescent tone. Reverse slightly off-centre, with banker's mark in right field. Brilliant surfaces. As struck. FDC. Issue minted before the Battle of Actium in 31 BC, when Octavian still had to claim descent from Julius Caesar (hence the legend that names him as son of Divus Julius).
