Greek Italy. Southern Lucania, Metapontum. AR Stater, c. 330-290 BC. Obv. Head of Demeter right, wearing barley-wreath, triple pendant earring and necklace. Rev. META. Barley ear of seven grains with leaf to right; ΛY to lower left; star above leaf. HN Italy 1592; Johnston Class C, 8.14–5. AR. 7.80 g. 21.00 mm. Great metal. A superb example, brilliant and prettily toned, with lovely iridescent hues. Minor area of weakness on reverse. EF.
