Lot 713:
Antioch. Anonymous (1120-1140). AE Fractional denier. Obv. Two towers; in centre, long cross; below I I I . Rev. HN TIOC HIH in three lines. Cf. Malloy 13; Cf. Schl. pl. III, 12; Cf. Metcalf 463. AE. 0.57 g. 15.00 mm. RRR. Slightly bent flan. VF. Very intriguing anonymous type characterized by a norman style, probably struck during the latter days of the Byzantine influence on the coinage of the principality. Many are the varieties listed by authors but the depiction of the castle in this offered example seems to be unique. Instead of the usual three towered castle we can find a long potent cross which separates the two towers at sides; probably an artistic game by the engraver.
