P. Fonteius Capito. AR Denarius, 55 BC. Obv. P·FONTEIVS·P·F·CAPITO·III·VIR. Helmeted and draped bust of Mars right, with trophy over shoulder. Rev. MN·FONT·TR·MIL (MN ligate). Warrior on horseback thrusting his spear at Gaulish enemy who is about to slay unarmed captive; on right, helmet and oval shield. Cr. 429/1; B. (Fonteia) 17. AR. 3.96 g. 17.50 mm. Sound metal and full weight. An outstanding example, perfectly centred, superb and prettily toned, with lovely golden hues. Rare as such. Good EF.
