Greek Italy. Northern Apulia, Canusium. AE 22 mm, c. 250-225 BC. Obv. Head of young male left. Rev. [ΚΑΝΥΣΙΝΩΝ]. Warrior, holding spear, on horseback right. HN Italy 660; HGC 2 581; SNG ANS 694; Siciliano, Canosina, Group a. 6.19 g. 22.00 mm. RR. Glossy green brown patina. VF. As noted by Rutter in HN, the male head on the obverse is thought by some to be a portrait of Sicipio Africanus, who sought refuge at Canusium in 216 BC, but this is unsubstantiated.
