Prawn series. AE Semis, c. 179-170 BC. Obv. Laureate head of Saturn right; behind, S. Rev. Prow right; above, prawn; before, S and below, ROMA. Cr. -; cf. series 156; D'Ailly, p. 781 and pl. CXII, 13=Santini 1940, pp. 161-2 and pl. LXXI, 360. AE. 20.74 g. 28.00 mm. RRRR. Exceedingly rare denomination of this very rare issue, this is the second specimen known, not listed by Crawford and McCabe. The first and the only other example is that which was published by D'Ailly and Santini (20.25 g.). Both our and D'Ailly specimen are very heavy for a series which has an As of about 31.5 g. Brown patina, metal flaws. VF.
