Lot 247:
Continental Greece. Corinthia, Corinth. AR Stater, c. 549-450 BC. Obv. Pegasos flying left. Rev. Helmeted head of Athena right within incuse square. Pegasi cf. 48 or 56; Ravel Period 134 (O 85/R 101). 8.51 g. 21.00 mm. Choice example of this archaic issue. The die break on reverse, which had previously been considered a symbol (Forrer describing the Weber collection listed it as a mace), was correctly identified by Ravel. Our specimen has the same dies of Ravel 134. Pleasant old cabinet tone with a hint of iridescence around the devices. Good VF/About EF.
