Sicily. Akragas. AR Half Shekel-Drachm, Punic occupation, c. 214-210 BC. Obv. Laureate head of Zeus right. Rev. [ΑΚΡΑΓΑΝ-ΤΙ]ΝΩΝ. Eagle standing left, with spread wings; TΦΞ in left field. HGC 2 123; SNG ANS 1136 var. (controls); Burnett, Enna Hoard /. 2.95 g. 18 mm. RR. Very rare. Ragged flan, brilliant and gently cleaned. VF. Akragas suffered badly during the Second Punic War, as both Rome and Carthage fought to control it. This coin dates from the time of the Punic occupation, which ended with the Roman capture of the city in 210 BC, at which time it was renamed Agrigentum. (Roma Numismatics 80, 2021, 58 note).
