Greek Italy. Northern Apulia, Canusium. AE 24 mm, c. 250-225 BC. D/ Bare male head left. R/ Warrior on horseback right, holding long spear; below, KANYΣINΩN. HN Italy 660; SNG ANS 694; SNG Cop. 643. 7.73 g. 24.00 mm. RR. Very rare. Pleasant deep green patina with reddish spots. Good VF. As noted by Rutter in HN, the male head on the obverse is thought by some to be a portrait of Sicipio Africanus, who sought refuge at Canusium in 216 BC, but this is unsubstantiated.
