Lucius Caesius. AR Denarius, 112 or 111 BC. Obv. Youthful bust of Vejovis left, seen from behind, holding thunderbolt in upraised right hand; in right field, ROMA in monogram. Rev. Lares Praestites seated right, each holding staff in left hand; between them, dog; above, bust of Vulcan with tongues over shoulder; on left, LA (ligate); on right, ER (ligate); in exergue, L. CAESI (AE ligate). Cr. 298/1; B. (Caesia) 1. AR. 3.82 g. 19.00 mm. An oustanding example of great beauty. Enchanting iridescent tone, with reddish and blue highlights. Virtually as struck and
possibly among the finest known.
