Drusus, son of Tiberius (died 23 AD). AE As, struck under Tiberius. Obv. DRVSVS CAESAR TI AVG F DIVI AVG N. Bare head left. Rev. PONTIF TRIBVN POTEST ITER around large SC. RIC I (2nd ed.) (Tib.) 45; C. 2. 10.69 g. 32.00 mm. A very attractive example. Broad flan, superb portrait, lovely dark green patina, with lighter spots. Good VF. Drusus Julius Caesar became heir to the Roman Empire - following the death of his adoptive brother Germanicus in AD 19. But Drusus was poisoned only 37 years old by his wife Livilla - who had been seduced by the chief of the praetorian guard, Sejanus - who himself wanted to become the next emperor. This coin was issued just before Drusus died.
