P. Satrienus. AR Denarius, Rome mint, 77 BC. Obv. Helmeted head of Roma right; on the left, control-numeral IIXXXT. Rev. She-wolf left, right forepaw raised; above, ROMA; in exergue, P·SATRIE / NVS. Cr. 388/1; B. 1. AR. 4.20 g. 17.50 mm. An interesting overweight example with a gash across the obverse surface. This practice is an 'adjustment al marco'. (C. Stannard 'The adjustment al marco of the weight of Roman Republican denarii blanks by gouging' in 'Metallurgy in numismatics vol 3' Royal Numismatic Society, 1993). Good VF.
