Greek Asia. Islands off Caria, Rhodes. AR Drachm, c. 88-84 BC. ‘Plinthophoric’ coinage. Thrasymedes, magistrate. Obv. Radiate head of Helios right. Rev. ΘPAΣYMΕΔΗΣ. Rose with bud to right, flanked by P-O; to lower left, grasshopper; all within incuse square. HGC 6 1461; Cf. SNG Cop. 818; Jenkins, Group B. AR. 3.08 g. 17.50 mm. RRR. Rare variety with grasshopper, apparently unpublished. Brilliant and darkly toned. About EF.
