Sicily. Gela. AR Tetradrachm, c. 465-450 BC. Obv. Charioteer, holding kentron in left hand and reins in right, driving quadriga right; in background, column with Ionic capital. Rev. Forepart of bearded man-headed bull (river god) right; CEΛAΣ above; all within shallow incuse circle. HGC 2 342; SNG ANS 51; Jenkins, Gela 235 (O62/R125); BMC 67 (same dies); Hunterian 3 (same obv. die). AR. 17.15 g. 25.00 mm. Superb and brilliant. Lovely old cabinet tone. EF.
