Germanicus, son of Nero Claudius Drusus and Antonia (died 19 AD). AE Dupondius. Struck under Gaius (Caligula), AD 37-41. Countermark applied during the reign of Vespasian, 69-79 AD. Obv. Germanicus driving triumphal quadriga right, holding eagle-tipped scepter and reins. NCAPR countermark. Rev. Germanicus standing left, raising hand and holding aquila. RIC I (2nd ed.) (Gaius) 57. 15.28 g. 31.00 mm. Attractive in hand. Dark patina, almost black, with light earthen dusting. VF.
