Greek Italy. Northern Apulia, Salapia. AE 16.5 mm, c. 225-210 BC. Obv. Head of Athena right, wearing Corinthian helmet; behind, star; below, ΣΑΛ. Rev. Owl standing facing, to left, club; to right, ΠΛΩ. HN Italy -; HGC 1 -. 3.27 g. 16.50 mm. RRRR. Exceedingly rare and unlisted in the standard references. Very few specimens know; for other example see CNG 327 (2014), lot 123 (considered unique). The attribution of this coin to Salapia is due to the ethnic at obverse in coexistence with abbreviated magistrate's name (ΠΛΩTIOY) on reverse. About EF.
