Augustus (27 BC - 14 AD) . AR Denarius, uncertain Spanish mint (Colonia Caesaraugusta?), 19-18 BC. Obv. Laureate head right. Rev. Two laurel branches (or trees) upright; CAESAR above, AVGVSTVS below. RIC I (2nd ed.) 33a; C. 47. 3.81 g. 18.00 mm. RR. Rare. A choice example, brilliant and lightly toned. Good VF/ About EF. The trees featured on this reverse type are a representation of the laurel trees gifted to Octavian by the Senate when they bestowed the title of Augustus upon him. They were planted on either side of the entrance gate to his home on Palatine. (Heritage 231928, 2019, 62100 note).
