A. Plautius. AR Denarius, 55 BC. Obv. A. PLAVTIVS AED. CVR. S.C. Turreted head of Cybele right. Rev. Bacchius kneels right, with camel at his side, extending olive branch; in exergue, BACCHIVS; on right, IVDAEVS. Cr. 431/1; B. 13. AR. 3.78 g. 18.00 mm. Scarce. A choice example, perfectly centred and complete. Handsome light cabinet tone. About EF. Bacchius, unknown to history under that name at least, might be Aristobulos II of Jerusalem (who submitted to Pompey) or Dionysios of Tripolis.
