Head of Zeus Eleutherios left, wearing laurel wreath; ZEYΣ EΛEYΘEP[IOΣ] around. Rev. Horse rearing left; ΣYPAKOΣIΩ[N] around. HGC 2 1439; CNS II 80 st 7/1; SNG ANS 533 ff; Castrizio Series II, 1; SNG Lloyd 1456-7; SNG Morcom 717; Basel 499; Favorito 17; Laffaille 225; Virzi 1500–14. AE. 21.16 g. 27.50 mm. R. An outstanding example, exceptional for issue; possibly the finest known. Pleasant greyish-green and brown-red patina. For a similar example cf. Triton XXV. lot 109, an outstanding specimen, that before our Ineffable Arethusa (Artemide LVI, 120) held the sales record for a Syracusan bronze. EF.
