Sicily. Syracuse. Hiketas II (287-278 BC). AE Litra, c. 283-279 B.C. Overstruck on Agathokles issue ΣΩΤΕΙΡΑ/Winged thunderbolt, considerable undertype remaining. Obv. Laureate head of young Zeus Hellanios left. Rev. Eagle standing left on thunderbolt. HGC 2 1448; Cf. CNS II 172; Undertype HGC 2 1537, CNS II 138. AE. 8.50 g. 25.00 mm. A very attractive and very rare overstrike. Deep green brown patina. Good VF/VF.
