Theodosius II (402-450). AV Reduced (!) Solidus, Constantinople mint, 441-450 AD. Obv. DN THEODOSIVS PF AVG. Pearl-diademed, helmeted, and cuirassed bust facing slightly right, holding spear over shoulder and shield decorated with horseman motif. Rev. IMP XXXXII COS XVII P P. Constantinopolis enthroned left, holding globus cruciger and sceptre, resting left foot on prow; to left, star; in exergue, COMOB. Cf. RIC X 320 (R4). 3.38 g. 19.50 mm. RR. An intriguing light example. Slightly waved flan and traces of double striking on legends, otherwise. about EF.
