Johannes (Usurper, 423-425). AE 12 mm. Rome mint. Obv. DN IOHANNES PF AVG. Pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right. Rev. SALVS R[EIPVBLICAE]. Victory advancing left, head right, holding trophy over shoulder and dragging captive; staurogram above S to left; in exergue, RM. RIC X 1916. 1.28 g. 12.00 mm. R. Rare and in excellent condition for issue, with complete obverse legend. Very attractive portrait, dark green patina. Good VF/VF. Johannes, possibly of Gothic descent, becomes emperor in Rome in AD 423; not recognized by Theodosius II in the East, who supports his relative Valentinian III, is executed by East-Roman troops in May/June 425.
