Sextus Pompey. AR Denarius, 42-40 BC., Sicily. Obv. MAG PIVS IMP ITER. Head of Neptune right, hair tied with band, with trident over shoulder. Rev. PRAEF CLAS ET ORAE MARIT EX SC. Naval trophy with trident above and anchor below; prow stem on left and aplustre on right; two heads of Scylla at base. Cr. 511/2a. AR. 3.87 g. 19.50 mm. R. Rare. Sharply struck, from masterly engraved dies, brilliant and superb, Light iridescent tone. Minor mark on Neptune's beard, otherwise. Good EF.
