Julius Caesar. AR Denarius, mint moving with Caesar, 49-48 BC. Obv. Elephant advancing right, trampling on horned serpent; in exergue, CAESAR. Rev. Pontifical emblems: simpulum, aspergillum, axe and apex. Cr. 443/1. AR. 3.91 g. 19.50 mm. An outstanding example. Great metal and compact thick flan. Enchanting iridescent old cabinet tone with underlying luster. EF.
