Greek Italy. Southern Lucania, Metapontum. AR Stater, c. 400-340 BC. Obv. Head of Demeter left, wearing ampyx, earring and necklace; to right, A/ΡΙΣΤΟ (A larger). Rev. Barley ear of six grains; leaf to left; alabastron above leaf; META upwards to right. HN Italy 1520; Noe 425; HGC 1 1045. AR. 7.8 g. 21.5 mm. RR. A spectacular example of this rare issue, undoubtedly crafted with refined artistic taste. Striking weaknesses. Light iridescent patina. A highly attractive specimen. Good VF.
