Greek Italy. Northern Lucania, Paestum. AE Semis, mid-first century, Social War to Caesar. Obv. Draped bust of Hermes/Mercury right, wearing winged petasos; to left, caduceus(?); to right, POΔO (retrograde). Rev. Clasped hands; above, L FAD ligate; below L SAT ligate. HN Italy -, cf. 1250 (for rev. type); HGC 1 -, cf. 1215 (same); Crawford, Paestum -, cf. 32 (same). AE. 3.46 g. 17.5 mm. RRRR. Enigmatic unpublished issue, possibly a contemporary counterfeit, featuring an obverse type unknown for this mint. Also bearing an unusual obverse legend, probably a personal name (Rodos ?). Good VF.
