Greek Italy. Northern Lucania, Paestum. AE Quadrans, c. 3rd century BC. Obv. Oil-flask (Aryballos); three pellets left. Rev. Strigil. HN Italy -; HGC 1 -; SNG ANS -; Garrucci pl. CXXIII, 11; Virzi 89. AE. 1.55 g. 11 mm. RRR. Very rare issue, not published in the major references, depicting a pair of instruments used primarily by male athletes in ancient times. The oil from the flask was applied on the body before the exercise, then scraped off using the strigil. Good VF/about EF.
