He is notable for his ambitious but ruthless policies, including the destruction of Gela, whose inhabitants he relocated to a new city he founded and named after himself, Phintias (modern Licata). His reign also involved conflicts with Hiketas of Syracuse and interactions with the Carthaginians, highlighting the complex power dynamics of Sicilian politics during this era​.
