Plautilla, wife of Caracalla (died 212 AD). AR Denarius. Obv. PLAVTILLAE AVGVSTAE. Draped bust right. Rev. PROPAGO IMPERI. Caracalla standing left, clasping right hands with Plautilla standing right. RIC IV 362; C. 21. 2.69 g. 19.5 mm. Scarce. Attractive black patina. Good VF. Fulvia Plautilla was the daughter of the powerful praetorian prefect Plautianus, a fellow towns-man of Septimius Severus. She was married to Caracalla in 202, but three years later she was banished following the downfall of her father. Her captivity ended in 212 when she was put to death soon after the assassination of Geta.
