Sicily. Syracuse. AR Tetradrachm, type of Eukleidas, c. 405-395 BC. Obv. Charioteer driving galloping quadriga left, holding kentron in right hand, reins in both hands; Nike flying above and crowning charioteer; in exergue, dolphin swimming left. Rev. Head of Arethusa left wearing double looped earring and a necklace with a small pendant, large band in hair from under which hair flows upward and backward in flame-like locks, surrounded by four dolphins swimming. SNG ANS 299 (same dies); SNG Lloyd 1407; Gulbenkian 297; Rizzo pl. 48, 15. AR. 17.24 g. 25.3 mm. Choice example, well centred and lightly toned. Light scratch on obverse. Good VF.
