Ostrogothic Italy, Athalaric to Witigis (526-540). AV Tremissis. Pseudo-Imperial Coinage. In the name of Justinian I. Rome or Ravenna mint, c. 527/30-539. Obv. DN IVSTINI-ANVS PΓ AVG (AV ligate). Pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right. Rev. VICTORIΛ ΛVGVSTORVM. Victory advancing right on ground line with pellet at each end and in the centre, head left, holding wreath and globus cruciger; star to right; in exergue, CONOI. Cf. COI 37 (Rome or Ravenna); Cf. MEC 1, 123 (Ostrogoths) and 298 (Lombards). ; Cf. MIB 29 (Rome). AV. 1.46 g. 16.00 mm. RR. Very rare and choice, with bright grounds. Slightly bent flan. Good VF. Interesting example of a Western mint tremissis with CONOB in the exergue. According to the pigtail this coin appears to be unlisted in the standard reference.
