Poseidon, nude but for chlamys draped over both shoulders, in throwing stance right, holding trident overhead in right hand. Rev. Bull right; above, Nike flying right, crowning bull. HN Italy 1749; HGC 1 1245. 1.01 g. 10.00 mm. R. Rare. Lightly toned. About VF. It is not clear to which phase of the city this type belongs, it can either be Sybaris III or Sybaris V. The city of Sybaris was occupied by Kroton in 510 BC and after that the inhabitants tried to re-gain their city several times, including some trials to fund a new city (it resulted in a conflict with the new settlers from mainland Greece who eventually funded Thurium instead).
