Greek Italy. Lucania, Poseidonia-Paestum. AR Nomos, c. 520 BC. Obv. ΠΟΣ (retrograde). Poseidon, bearded, nude but for chlamys draped over his arms, standing right, preparing to cast trident held aloft in right hand, left arm extended. Rev. A superb example of this difficult issue of enchanting Archaic style. Lovely delicate patina, enchanting underlying luster. Graffiti on reverse and minor scratches on obverse. EF.
