L series. AR Quinarius. Luceria mint, c. 214 BC. Obv. Helmeted head of Roma right (Phrygian helmet); behind, V; below, archaic L. Rev. The Dioscuri galloping right; in rectangular frame, ROMA. Cf. Cr. 98A/3. AR. 2.21 g. 16.00 mm. Rare and superb. Enchanting iridescent tone, with blue and golden hues. EF. We attribute this quinary to the L series, minted in Luceria in 214, following the new work of Debernardi (forthcoming), taking distance from the trace of Crawford (which listed this issue as LT series: 98A/3).
