Continental Greece. Attica, Athens. AR Tetradrachm. New Style coinage. Polycharm(os), Nikog(enes), and Karaichos, magistrates. Struck 133/2 BC. Obv. Head of Athena Parthenos right, wearing necklace, pendent earring, and triple-crested Attic helmet decorated with the protomes of four horses above the visor, a Pegasos in flight rightward above the raised earpiece, and a curvilinear ornament on the shell. Rev. Owl standing right, head facing, on amphora; A-ӨE above ΠOΛY-XAPM/NIKOΓ/KAPA/IKOV (magistrates’ names) in five lines across field; winged kerykeion to left, K on amphora, ΔI below; all within wreath. HGC 4 1602; Cf. Thompson 379/380a (same obv. die/rev. type). AR. 16.79 g. 30.00 mm. Delicate light tone with underlying luster. About EF.
