France. Dukes and Duchesses of Lorraine. AE Medal, Nancy, without date, late 17th-early 18th century. Obv. Map of the duchy of Lorraine. Rev. Inscription in fifteen lines (the latin biography of Adalbert, Count of Metz 1045-1048, Duke of Upper-Lorraine 1047-1048). AE. 36.03 g. 46.00 mm. Opus: Ferdinand de Saint Urbain. Good VF. The engraver Ferdinand de Saint Urbain (1654 or 1658 to 1738) made a whole series of medals depicting all Dukes and Duchesses of Lorraine from 1048 to his own time. This might be the first of that series, as the only date mentioned is 1048, the death of Adalbert.
