Augustus (27 BC - 14 A.D.). AR Denarius, Autumn 30-summer 29 BC. Italian (Rome?) mint. Obv. Bare head right. Rev. Naval and military trophy facing, composed of helmet, cuirass, shield, and crossed spears, set on prow of galley right; crossed rudder and anchor at base. RIC I (2nd ed.) 265a. AR. 3.72 g. 22.50 mm. A wonderful portrait of elegant style, struck on a medallic flan. From masterly engraved dies and brilliant, with underlying luster and a hint of iridescence. An impressive coin in hand. About EF.
