Africa. Egypt, Ptolemaic Kingdom. Ptolemy I Soter (305-285 BC). AR Tetradrachm. Alexandreia mint. Struck circa 294-285 BC. Obv. Diademed head right, wearing aegis around neck, tiny Δ behind ear. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ ΠTOΛEMAIOY. Eagle standing left on thunderbolt; to left, P above A. Svoronos 247; SNG Cop. -; CPE 137. AE. 14.14 g. 27.00 mm. Superb and impressive. Wonderful old cabinet tone, underlying luster; scratch on chin and light graffito on reverse, both under tone. EF.
