Antoninus Pius (138-161). AE Sestertius. Rome mint. Struck AD 147-148. Obv. ANTONINVS AVG PIVS PP TR P COS IIII. Laureate bust right, slight drapery on far shoulder. Rev. LIBERALITAS AVG V SC (in exergue). Antoninus seated left on sella castrensis on raised daïs, extending hand; to left, Liberalitas standing left, holding abacus and cornucopia; below, a citizen standing right, extending hand. RIC III 775. AE. 26.16 g. 34.00 mm. R. Attractive green brown patina. Good VF. Pius’s fifth liberality was given in honor of his recent vota decennalia, which was also the occasion for celebratory games, the Primi Decennales.
