Greek Italy. Southern Apulia, Tarentum. AR Nomos, c. 280 BC. Philokles, magistrate. Obv. Nude youth, holding shield and rein, on horseback left; ΣI to right, ΦIΛOKΛHΣ below. Rev. Phalanthos on dolphin left, holding wreath; ΛY below. HN Italy 965; Vlasto 687–90. AR. 7.79 g. 24.00 mm. Great metal and full weight. Despite minor cleaning marks this is an outstanding example, sharply struck and well centred on a broad flan, brilliant and lightly toned. EF.
