M. Cato. AR Denarius, 89 BC. Obv. Draped female bust right, hair tied with band; behind, ROMA; below, IMP CATO. Rev. Victory seated right, holding patera and palm branch; below seat, ST; in exergue, VICTRIX. Cr. 343/1c; B. (Porcia) 5. AR. 4.19 g. 20.00 mm. Great metal, full weight and broad flan. An outstanding example, from masterly engraved dies, brilliant and nicely toned, with iridescent highlights. Insignificant area of flatness on reverse, beside the exergue border, otherwise. EF.
