13th-14th centuries. D/ Frontal face on the central bar in Angevine taste. Around legend or letters apparently readable as: D M V E O n m I V C A. 1.27 g. 17.00 mm. Preserved pin. EF. Similar badge is published and discussed in Brian Spencer's landmark Pilgrim Souvenirs and Secular Badges, where he notes that badges of this type, of which there are around 40 known, often contain this puzzling inscription in Lombardic letters, the meaning of which, if there was one, is unknown.
