Manuel I Comnenus (1143-1180). EL Aspron Trachy, Constantinople mint. Obv. Christ, seated facing on throne without back, raising right hand in benediction and holding book of Gospels. Rev. The Virgin and Manuel, bearded, both standing facing; they hold between them patriarchal cross. Sear 1958; Ratto 2119. EL. 4.08 g. 33.50 mm. Very broad unclipped flan and full weight. An outstanding example, sharply struck, with an unusually superb obverse. Very rare as such. Lovely light toning, with iridescent hues. EF/Good EF.
