Faustina II, wife of Marcus Aurelius (died 176 AD). AE Sestertius. Struck under Antoninus Pius, 145-146 AD. Obv. FAVSTINAE AVG PII AVG FIL. Draped bust right, hair waved and coiled on back of head. Rev. VENVS SC. Venus standing facing, head left, holding apple and rudder, round which dolphin is coiled. RIC III (A. Pius) 1388. AE. 24.21 g. 34.00 mm. From masterfully engraved dies, struck on a broad medallic flan. Lovely reddish brown patina. Hair-line flan crack at 6 o' clock and significant delamination spots, otherwise. about EF.
