Round shield [inscribed CL•V (clipeus virtutis)] flanked by two laurel branches, S P Q R around. RIC I (2nd ed.) 36a. AR. 3.77 g. 18.00 mm. RRR. Banker's marks on obverse. Nice coin, lovely dark patina with warm golden hues. VF.
The clipeus virtutis, a shield of valor, was presented together with laurel branches to Octavian by the Roman Senate in January of 27 BC in commemoration of the Battle of Actium.
