Continental Greece. Kings of Macedon. Alexander III 'the Great' (336-323 BC). AR Tetradrachm, Babylon mint, struck under Stamenes or Archon, c. 324-3 BC. Obv. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. AΛEΞANΔPOY. Zeus seated left on low throne, holding sceptre and eagle; to left, Nike flying left, holding wreath; in upper field, countermark (?); below throne, monogram above M. Price 3625. AR. 17.20 g. 26.00 mm. Sharply struck in high relief from dies of fine style and superb. Lovely light iridescent tone, with golden hints. About EF.
