Sicily. Syracuse. Hieron I (478-466 BC). AR Tetradrachm, c. 475-470 BC. Obv. Charioteer, holding kentron in right hand and reins in both, driving slow quadriga right; above, Nike flying right, crowning horses with wreath held in both hands; in exergue, traces of something (die break?). Rev. Head of Arethusa right, wearing pearl tainia, hoop earring with a single pendant, and pearl necklace; four dolphins and ΣV-RAKO-ΣIO-N (retrograde) around. HGC 2 1307; Boehringer 353 (O 246/R 175); SNG ANS 113 (same dies). AR. 16.96 g. 25.50 mm. Glossy dark patina. Nice specimen. VF/Good VF.
