L. Roscius Fabatus. AR Denarius serratus, 64 BC. Obv. Head of Juno Sospita right, wearing goat's skin; behind, uncertain control-mark; below neck truncation, L ROSCI. Rev. Female standing right, feeding serpent erect before her; behind, cooking-pot; in exergue, FABAT[I]. Cr. 412/1 (control-marks 47); Banti 1/- (control-marks unlisted). AR. 3.93 g. 17.00 mm. Good metal and full weight. A superb example, sharply struck and perfectly centred on a slightly compact flan. Lovely iridescent toning. EF.
